Visiting Temples Improves Health.

The generation today accepts the age old Vedic culture, only if it is proved now. Though, science is not everything, we should realise that there is something beyond science. And most of the youth now, are hanging on that small branch called Science, to rely upon and to reason, forgetting the roots of the nature called “Philosophy”. Science that will prove something today, will disprove the same tomorrow. Whereas, Philosophy remains the ultimate set of facts, which we have to learn and follow to understand and experience.

This is a small attempt where science was successful in proving that, visiting temples will enhance the health of the body. It is very interesting and also makes us realise the knowledge hidden in Vedas. Let me explain bit by bit. Generally, a temple should be located at a place where earth's magnetic wave path passes through densely. It can be in the outskirts of a town/village or city, or in middle of the dwelling place, or on a hilltop.

First and foremost is the architecture of the temple. A gopura is seen in every temple which takes the shape of a Pyramid. This structure will increase the concentration of cosmic energy within the premises of the temple.

Second, the magnetic waves are generated due to Gravity of the Earth, which itself acts as a huge magnet. These magnetic waves in the temple premises are always predominant. This is because of the metal roofing inside the Garbha gudi and its surrounding. Hence, while moving round the temple (Pradakshina), these magnetic waves enter the body constantly to ignite positive entergies. The same can be experienced better when we sit in the temple chanting or meditating, resulting in peace of mind and relaxed feeling.

Third, the Garbha gudi has only one opening for entry and exit. So, all the magnetic waves generated here rush out through the single outlet and enteres the human body, outside. Hence, the nearer you are to the Garbha gudi dwara (main door of Garbha gudi), the more positive energy you receive, minimising your tieredness.

Fourth, the light energy coming from oil lamps, sound energy arising from bells ringing ( sounds from Ghante, Jhangte and Taala made of metals and alloys), Chemical energy erupting from the camphor burning and pleasent smell of flowers and all the lines of forces due

to north-south poles of magnet and magnetic materials in the temple are all the positive energies that flow through our body.

Fifth, is the Teertha (the auspicious 3 droplets of water). This Teertha is water mixed with Tulasi, Yalakki (cardomom), Lavang (clove), pacha karpoora (borneo camphor) etc. This water is made holy by pouring it on the idol of God which is installed at a specific place where cosmic energy is concentrated and the water is collected in the copper or bronze container which is the source of magnetic energy. Thus, Teertha becomes an energiesed drink with Tulasi, that can evade common cough and cold, Yalakki and pacha karpoora being mouth freshning agents, Lavang – that enhances the health of teeth and gums and so on. The significance and numerous medicinal values of these items is well-known.

Sixth, I would like to mention the significance of relegious metals used to make idols of Gods and Godesses. These idols are made up of rich metals and their alloys. “Ashta-Dhatu”, is the alloy of eight metals viz., Gold, Silver, Copper, Zinc, Lead, Tin, Iron and Mercury. They are essential for the human body because they form an integral part of one or more enzymes involved in a metabolic or biochemical process. The primary role of such elements is as a catalyst, and only trace amounts are necessary for cellular function.

Criteria for essentiality for human health are that withdrawal or absence of the metal from the diet produces either functional or structural abnormalities. Adequate amounts are particularly important during pregnancy, and for infants and children during periods of rapid growth. Let me list these metals and their impact on different parts of the human body.

Gold-heart and spine Silver - brain and fluids Mercury - nervous system, lungs

Copper - kidneys, nutrition Zinc – Enzymes, cell growth, repair tissue injury

Iron - blood, muscles and circulation Tin - liver & gall bladder Lead - skeleton and skin, hair, nails

Whenever the “Teertha” is poured on the idols made up of “Ashta-Dhatu”, the Teertha water ionizes with all the eight metals present in the idol and becomes rich with minerals. Addition to that, the cosmic energies are also prevailent in the Teertha. In this way, traces of metal solvents (solid forms of metals do not get digested easily) enter the human body and helps in maintaining good health. As a supplement, once in a while, “Panchamrutha” - five elements of Amrutha ( Milk with sugar, Curds, Ghee, Honey and Fruits) are poured and pressed on the idols. This pressure will create friction on the idols which creates roughness on their surface. Rough surface helps to increase ionisation of the metals.

You can read my another blog for more details on metals : "Why metals are used for utensils and ornaments”

Seventh, the ringing of the bells and jhangte sounds. In Hindu culture, this is the way a daily ritualistic worship is started, by ringing the bell, so that virtuous and noble forces enter the heart and the demonic from (negetive thoughts) within and without depart.

A temple bell is not made of just ordinary metal, but a combination of a variety of metals like lead, copper, cadmium, zinc, nickel, chromium and manganese. The calculation of the quantity of each metal to be used in the making of a bell is done on a scientific basis. The sound produced by a bell is designed to strike a cordial balance between our right and left brain. The ringing of the bell produces a sharp sound which reverberates for approximately 7 seconds as an echo, long enough to touch on the seven healing centers or chakras in our body. The striking of the bell is believed to instantly halt all thought movement, creating a natural state of awareness. This also works to soothe the mind.

A well designed bell can produce resounding strains of the sound of “OM”.

At times, during festivals or special events, more lights, sound and pleasent smell creates a lot of positive energies in and around the temple area. Some times, the holy water is sprinkled over the devotees which will energise our body and mind. Therefore it is said that, males should go to temple without shirt. Ladies should visit the temples with more metallic ornaments, as they attract lot of magnetic energies, which can be absorbed in to their body.

Visiting temples frequently, will help in health improvement, for sure. Every ritual has a philosophy. Each philosophy has a meaning and objective. Every objective is meant for OUR well being. So, weather it is proved by science or not yet, let us follow them first and try to understand during the course. Hope, you agree.
